Zoya's Barn Hunt 1St Place

Zoya Wigg

WFH Supervisor & Time Tracker

Zoya is a 20-month-old West German Shepherd Showline. In this picture, she is showing her first-place win as a Barn Huntress. Barn Hunt is a fun sport for dogs where they must use their nose to locate rats (safely enclosed in aerated tubes) hidden in a maze of straw or hay within an allotted time (e.g., two minutes). She also trains for Scent Work and Fast CAT with the American Kennel Club. “In AKC Scent Work, dogs search for cotton swabs saturated with the essential oils of Birch, Anise, Clove, and Cypress. The cotton swabs are hidden out of sight in a pre-determined search area, and the dog has to find them. Teamwork is necessary: when the dog finds the scent, he has to communicate the find to the handler, who calls it out to the judge. Fast CAT® – Coursing Ability Test – is a timed 100-yard dash where dogs run one at a time, chasing a lure (ACK, 2022) (https://www.akc.org).”
